You can use Papeete as a base for exploring other parts of French Polynesia. We took the short ferry ride to Moorea and stayed a few days - definitely a worthwhile trip. We also took a half-day trip around Tahiti that took in the highlights of the natural beauty of the island as well as some historical sites.Guest review byJ&G1983Australia - Review score

Very hard to locate the actual apartment as there are no signs and the name appears to be wrong. Lucky for us to find a lovely generous occupant who helped us into our studio apartment. Fair walk to the shops due to the property being so high up the hill but the views from our balcony was fabulous. The swimming pool was a very big plus.Guest review byTuulaAustralia - Review score

The room had a nice view & the tv had netflix but it was noisy with the bar playing music all night. If you have any food intolerances don't go here, they don't cater for it at all & aren't prepared to make anything that isn't on the menu. The jet ski's are constantly whizzing past just outside the lagoon so swimming in the sea is dangerous & they have resident Cockerell's in the property that call constantly from dawn to dusk. The nearest supermarket is 1.5 miles away & you have to walk at the side of a very busy duel carriageway & breathe in the fumes. The reception & bar staff are lovely but the catering staff are unhelpful & unpleasant apart from the chef.Guest review byAnonymous - Review score

If you rent a car, there are lots of traffic circles and they drive fast! Ate at food trucks which were really good and good price. Walked to a little corner store which provided enough to get us through the first day. Careful of the dogs running wild in the streets. Seem friendly enough, but did hear of a person getting bitten by one. Would not want to walk in the dark in that area. Hotel seemed safe at night. Rented a vehicle and drove the entire island of Tahiti Anui and Tahiti Iti. High recommend driving the entire island. Lots to see and do!Guest review byHeidiCanada - Review score
Amazing! We cooked our on food.
Amazing! We cooked our on food. The Villa was great my kids had their own room, blast music, no neighbors, walked the mountain. Thing I didn’t like not air on the mountain as far as breeze none even with the all the windows open we had to call the owner to get fans for air. They were accommodating to bring us fans. Other than that perfect! Will go back to stay at the same Villa hands down.Guest review byTaraUnited States - Review score

The Bora Bora Lounge near the port offers luggage storage for about $6 US per day. Doesn’t matter how big the suitcase is. The best thing we did in Pape’ete was an around the island tour with Lydia’s Tours of Tahiti. We saw so much and Lydia drives you around in a very new, comfortable, air conditioned van. She is a wealth of information about the history, culture and everyday life of Tahiti.Guest review byCarolyn WAustralia - Review score

When we arrived from the States, we took a taxi to Pepeete for proximity to the ferry terminal (we were headed to Moorea next day). Flying back from another island in FP a few weeks later, we stayed in Faaa since we would be flying back to the States the next day. Now we know, we'd stay in Faaa on both ends and taxi to the ferry terminal if we were planning to go to Moorea next.Guest review bySkiUnited States - Review score
We couldn't sleep due to 95 degree temperature in unit.
We couldn't sleep due to 95 degree temperature in unit. We were too exhausted to do anything. Not easy to get around as taxis are booked up in advance. Unit is in gated community so taxis can't get in.Guest review byStanleyUnited States - Review score
Papeete is a lot like Honolulu.
Papeete is a lot like Honolulu. Very busy city with beautiful beaches a drive away. The city is not good for walking as there are not always sidewalks so you are forced to walk in the busy street. The sidewalks that were available are rutted with numerous tripping hazards. The majority of local people were very friendly.Guest review byAnonymous - Review score
