We loved the location of our hotel, right in the Old Quarter. So much tradition right on our doorstep. We enjoyed trying local beers and street food and visited the night market for a few bargains. Grab made moving around easy, although we walked most places. Train Street was cool, and we enjoyed the vibes of Beer Street. Day trip to Nimh Binh was great, lots of different experiences. A vibrant centre with lots to see and do. Traffic is crazy but it all works. Drivers are very considerate of others and never appeared to be angry or upset. I've travelled all over SE Asia for 30 years. Hanoi is definitely among the best cities in the world these days. Vietnam in general is becoming the number 1 destination country in Asia, and it deserves to be that. Hanoi varies from the Old Centre with strong Vietnamese culture, history and restaurants , to the French zone with big designer stores and Rolex etc. It's all walkable, taxis are half the price of 2 years ago, plenty of rickshaws. Packed little streets, apparently chaotic, slow traffic, extremely friendly people, students who really want to practice their English with you, huge numbers of shops selling everything that you can imagine....... I enjoyed the guided tour that included tasting typical Vietnamese dishes and street food. I had confidence that places we visited were safe for eating. Waiting for the train to pass through Train Street is a fun experience, especially the buzz as the crowds assemble. Walk around the lake in the daytime and then again in the evening to get a different feel for this popular location. The manic nature of the traffic is impossible to explain. The pavements are blocked by motor scooters or cafes and stalls spilling onto them. Constantly having to walk in the road is nerve wracking and not enjoyable at all.Guest review byCherrillFrance
