I recently stayed at Hotel Victory during a trip to Shimla and overall had a pleasant experience. The hotel’s biggest strength is its location just a short walk from Mall Road and very close to the railway station, which made it super convenient for sightseeing and commuting.

Shimla is a fabulous place to visit, it is colourful and vibrant, full of history. It is fascinating how the local people live on such steep slopes. The local markets and shops are great. Shimla is the stepping stone to take you into the mountains, villages and temples. The local Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) tourist office is excellent and helped us plan our 5 day trip up into the mountain, booking us excellent accommodation in great spots.

Not for the feint hearted.
Not for the feint hearted. A lot of walking up and down very steep hills.
The views are amazing on a clear day. The Shimla to Kalka train is a must. Get up to the Hanuman Temple and Statue for the views.
Beware of the monkeys. They steal glasses, mobile phones and anything else they can get hold of to exchange back for food.
Best breakfast is at the Indian Coffee House.
Lunch, have a Dal Makhani and Roti in any small local eatery.
We enjoyed the Kebab Platter and veg fried rice at the Ashiana Restaurant in the old bandstand.

The journey to Shimla is long, I was aware of that when I booked the apartment. But the people are generally rude and make clear that they don't appreciate foreigners. That was at least my impression.

Old city.
Old city. Built by the then British Govt as their summer summer capital. For 8 months, it was the capital of British India (till 1947).
One should visit Kali Temple, The Ridge, The Mall, Tara Devi Temple (15Km from Shimla on Shimla Chandigarh H/way), Sankotmochon Temple, Army Museum, Indian Institute of Advance Studies, HP Museum (The Bantony Castle) Jakhu Temple in Shimla. Beware of monkeys at Jakhu Temple - they may snatch your spectacles.
May also visit Chail Palace and enjoy sunset from Kali Ka Tibba near Chail.
Other nearby attractions are Kufri Zoo, Rashtapani Nuivas Mashobra, Hatu Mata Temple at Hatu Pick and Tanu Jubber Lake (Narkanda), Horse riding around Naldehra Golf course.

Amazing view, perfect location close to Mall Road. Right on the main road, book parking if you have personal car. Staff is exceptional. Hotel Manager Tushar is super helpful. Good place to stay with Children, very clean and well heated. Room with existing bed wall mounted bed is perfect while travelling with children, no need to take extra bed. Washrooms have hot water 24 hours for bath and wash basin. Enuf bathmats provided for us to cope up with cold bathroom floor as we came from the West of India. Overall perfect stay in Shimla.
I just love the view from this hotel. Rooms are very well maintained. The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. Food quality is very good. Staff and services are excellent 👌👌. Worth the money 😂😂.I enjoyed a lot and the best thing is the walking distance from mall road is only 10 minutes. Will definitely recommend to everyone.
Lovely old colonial lodge in quiet garden away from the hectic rush of Shimla. Fabulous rooms, nice bathroom, limited breakfast but lovely lounge area with antique furniture. Far from shopping area and Mall Road but an easy taxi ride. Efficient laundry and taxi service. Fabulous view from garden over Himalayas.
The best hotel on Mall Road Shimla 🙌 We really enjoyed our stay. It’s on mall road and has table tennis on 3rd floor. So if you’re looking for some indoor fun during your stay then this one is for you! We played almost 4-5 hours daily and best part is none of the staff members stopped us. Highly recommended 👍
