On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.
Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.
The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.
The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.
Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.

I enjoyed my visit to Ottawa, especially since I stayed at a hostel, which is within walking distance to Rideau train station, the shopping, and dining areas, as well as to the ByWard Market neighbourhoods in Central Ottawa. I visited Parliament Hill on foot, admiring its scenic view.

Your museums were amazing & we could have spent 3 days at the History & war museums. Very well done.
Once we figured out your public transport, it worked well for us. The drivers were all very helpful.

This was an enjoyable city to visit with the Ottawa River on one side and the Rideau Canal cutting through the city. Traffic was an issue and the airport quite a distance from the city so better to arrive by train if you are not driving.
Gatineau Conservation Park was a twelve minute drive from Ottawa with many beautiful hiking trails through the forest.

Being from Mississauga, ON, I have found that dining places in Ottawa close too early, including fast food chains. Grocery stores also close too early. The WalMart near my home closes at 11:30pm, FFS!!!
I had dropped off my husband and children off at our hotel so I could go visit a sick relative and they wanted to go swimming. I returned later than expected due to construction in the area that forced me to take a detour. I then stopped to pick up food close to our hotel. I reached the drive-through for Harvey's on 150 Earl Grey, Kanata at about 9:45pm and they claim to close @ 10:30pm on a Saturday. As soon as I pulled up to the window, they rudely shut all the lights and closed the place down!!!
Nothing in the vicinity was open either and I had 3 hungry kids and husband back at the hotel! I ended up spending $130 on dinner from an overpriced restaurant. Nothing fancy, just burgers and fries!! Easily avoidable if there were more affordable and CONVENIENT options available, especially considering all the hotels in the area!!!
Not a place to visit if you have young children! The roads are confusing and ridiculously crowded and people there drive like they're on a mission!!
FYI, I wanted my family and I to have a better experience this time around so we decided to give it another shot. This was our second time visiting Ottawa. Twice we went, and Twice we got slammed with terrible weather, terrible roads and a horrible experience! Unless you're going to stay with family who have the basic amenities, please don't take your children there!! It's not a vacation for parents at all, as you'll be stuck preparing all your children's meals and snacks and cramming them into a cooler and lugging it with you! Packing my entire house for a road trip is NOT my idea of an ideal vacation!!!

Beautiful city and the people were so friendly and nice and you can't beat the prices for shopping if you are from the USA. We went to see the tulips and they were beautiful. Many nice restaurants and bars and very lively nightlife. Loved the architecture. The tea at the Chateau was lovely and we enjoyed the bus/boat ride tour of the city. I would encourage people to go to Ottawa

I went to the Galley of Art and Civilization Museum.
I went to the Galley of Art and Civilization Museum. I like to get food to go and eat in my room with my feet up and there were lots of choices. The bus system worked out well for me. There were tulips everywhere.

The place was great! It's a well preserved old house that has all the amenities we needed for an awesome stay. Pierre, the host, is a very welcoming person who cares about his guests and really strives to offer a great service. On top of that, the place has free private parking, and it's within walking distance from all the main attractions in downtown, which makes it pretty convenient. I'll definetely book this place again when I come back to Ottawa.
Due to flight delays I was arriving at very odd time. I relayed the information during a stopover and the staff was present to welcome me upon arrival. Hotel is well located downtown and it is easy to walk everywhere. Night caps from the restaurant located in the hotel were absolutely tasty!
